What inspired you to make this project?
After seeing our friends and colleagues return to work after maternity leave and go though the struggle of juggling breastfeeding and work, we set out on a mission to make breastfeeding more compatible with the lifestyle of the modern mom.
We interviewed hundred of mothers and lactation experts and learned that the breast pumping space has been lacking innovation for the last few decades.
The horror stories of mothers struggling to keep up their milk supply due to the inefficiencies of the current technology deeply moved us. As engineers and future fathers and mothers, we felt the need to put our knowledge to good use and build a solution that will make this experience more comfortable for mothers. That's how Lilu was born.
With research insights from soft robotics, we developed our first prototype of a compression bra while we were students at Penn, 2 years ago. We then flew to Shenzhen, China to accelerate our product development. After many iterations of engineering and design of the product, we have a solution that fits.
