Jessie Garcia is the founder and CEO of Tozuda, a head impact sensor manufacturing company based in Philadelphia. She is a patented inventor and her core mechanical acceleration technology is being developed to create the most affordable and reliable head impact sensors on the market. Using her personal experiences with concussions, she is determined to make safety simple and affordable to everyone susceptible to head injury; including athletes, construction workers, and our service men and women. Jessie graduated Lehigh University with a B.A. in Global Studies and Entrepreneurship in 2012 and a Master’s of Engineering in Technical Entrepreneurship in 2013. She is a fellow in Stanford’s Latino Entrepreneurs Initiative Fellowship, and a resident company of Next Fab’s Hardware Incubator. Her company was listed as one of Philadelphia Magazine’s top ten startups to watch in 2018 and was a finalist for Philly.com’s 2017 Stellar Startup Awards. She is currently in UBS & Village Capital’s Pathways Program. She holds a Concussion Training Certificate from the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainer’s Society and Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania. After school, Jessie gained experience as an account manager at Latin Sales and Marketing, Inc. where she was able to develop and track incremental sales data while coordinating and executing retail promotions for clients such as Unilever, Telemundo, and Colgate Palmolive. At Tozuda, Jessie is in charge of day-to-day operations and is looking forward to scaling their first product line.

What inspired you to make this project?
I was really frustrated in college that I couldn't afford an expensive mouth guard that could detect impacts. I was determined to make something that was accessible to people of all socio-economic backgrounds.
