William Schymik

Will Schymik is a software developer and artist with a passion for blending geometry, electronics, and interactive design. Having lived in Boston for most of his life, Will initially pursued creative projects for fun, but a fascination with kaleidoscopes led him to explore the world of physical fabrication. His early projects combined traditional kaleidoscopic designs with integrated electronics, carving out a unique niche in the intersection of art and technology. As his projects evolved, he started incorporating 3D printing and laser cutting, expanding his ability to bring complex geometric patterns to life with precision. His love for math and geometry is at the core of his work, guiding his approach to creating intricate, interactive pieces. Now based in Philadelphia, Will has expanded his vision to larger-scale interactive art installations. His most recent project, Astral Gate, was a bold endeavor designed to push his technical and artistic limits, further cementing his commitment to creating immersive, mathematically inspired works that invite engagement and wonder.

What inspired you to make this project?
I love interactive art and I am drawn towards making the art I love consuming. I was initially inspired by an artist out of New Zealand who has a 6ft circular spandex screen that they rear project kaleidoscopes on. I fell in love with the piece and wanted to do something similar but with my own spin on it.
