Generative Clothing Designs By AlgoArt

Fashion
The Generative Clothing Designs (GCD) project seeks to bring together artists and programmers to create algorithmically generated clothing designs through a user-friendly online platform. We then make the clothing based on the generated designs. In this exhibit, we tell the story of the GCD project which includes how technologists, artists, and students have come together to make intriguing artworks and fashion items. The displayed artworks will take on various forms including shirts, hats, bags, and other accessories. The featured images were created using our award-winning algorithmic drawing platform called AlgoArt (algoart.org).

What inspired you to make this project?
My primary inspiration for this project was to offer students the opportunity to use computers to build creative works! It was especially rewarding once we started creating physical items that featured their artworks!

What are some of the challenges you have encountered and how did you address them?
Putting designs on clothing is tough. You have to try many different designs, images, methods, and suppliers!
